Reuse building materials at the highest value level

The trade fair duo RecyclingAKTIV & TiefbauLIVE (RATL for short) offers numerous approaches to the use of recycled building materials in infrastructure construction

Demonstration of a sample construction site for civil engineering and road construction

According to a recent report by the Kreislaufwirtschaft Bau initiative, Germany has a recycling rate of more than 90 percent for mineral construction waste, well above the European target of 70 percent. This can still be increased, and in a way that is both sustainable and profitable for all those involved in the value-added sectors concerned. With its broad and up-to-date product range, the RecyclingAKTIV & TiefbauLIVE (RATL for short) demonstration trade fair at Messe Karlsruhe from April 27 to 29, 2023, reflects the state of the art in managing recycled building materials in infrastructure construction. On more than 90,000 square meters of exhibition space, 95% of which will be outdoors, numerous demonstrations with machine-based solutions will be dedicated to this key topic. In keeping with the live character of the trade show, visitors will experience machines in action on more than two-thirds of the stand area of the 240 exhibitors and within the framework of five action areas and model construction sites.

Exhibitors focus on economical and sustainable technologies in road construction

Road construction and maintenance measures are important for an efficient transport infrastructure. At the demonstration fair, leading machine manufacturers and dealers will show their technologies developed for this purpose. Ammann Verdichtung takes the motto of the RATL literally and presents its latest machines to the trade public on two demo areas actively in use. At the demo area "Electromobility in Compact and GaLaBau", Ammann's lightweight electric compactors will be demonstrating their capabilities. Ammann's smallest single-drum compactor is being used on the civil engineering and road construction demonstration site. At its booth in the open-air area, the manufacturer will show the entire range of light compaction. Equipment supplier Bagela is giving mobile asphalt processing in its purest form a platform: its trailer-mounted, fuel-oil-powered asphalt recyclers can produce up to 10 t of hot mix per hour from excavated or milled material directly on the construction site, which can be used for a high-quality asphalt base layer. Dynapac will demonstrate - in combination with a feeder - an environmentally friendly and economical asphalt road paver with gas-fired paving screed and efficient smoke extraction. With MOBA's MOBA-Matic leveling system installed, the exact height and slope of the screed can be measured and adjusted to the subgrade at any time. This results in an absolutely even asphalt layer. Süddeutsche Teerindustrie GmbH (STM) will set up a demonstration line at its booth to show the possibilities for road rehabilitation. In addition, paving products such as cold mix will be shown as a rehabilitation option. As a demo highlight, STM will give a live demonstration of its "mastic asphalt" product.

Road construction and civil engineering put into practice

During the three RATL trade fair days, how modern machines and processes in infrastructure construction interlock will be demonstrated on a large-scale model construction site installed together with the VDBUM with a focus on "civil engineering and road construction" in the exhibition area of TiefbauLIVE as part of two live shows per trade fair day. Visitors from these areas of the construction industry can directly compare machines, vehicles and systems here and find the technical solutions that best meet their requirements in civil engineering and road construction - from efficient earth excavation to the handling and transport of excavated material as well as 3D-controlled formation and asphalt paving to compaction including area-wide compaction control. The demonstration of the technologies presented will take place in an exchange between the VDBUM and representatives of the participating exhibitors Ammann Verdichtung, Bergmann Maschinenbau, Dynapac, Hermann Paus, Hoch Baumaschinen, Hydrema, KEMROC, MOBA, Nagel Gruppe, and Schlüter Baumaschinen.

Top-class panel discussion on the topics "Approval processes for heavy transports" and "Substitute building materials

Well-known representatives from politics, the construction and demolition industry, and the supplier industry have confirmed their participation in an industry talk that will address current issues surrounding substitute construction materials and challenges in approval procedures in the transport sector. The discussion partners are Winfried Hermann, Minister of Transport Baden-Württemberg, Dr. Sarah Brückner, Managing Director Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e.V. Fachverband Abfall- und Recyclingtechnik (VDMA), Eric Rehbock, General Manager Bundesverband Sekundärrohstoffe und Entsorgung - bvse, Peter Guttenberger, Member of the Board VDBUM and Managing Director MAX BÖGL Transport und Geräte GmbH & Co. KG, and Thomas Lück, board member of the German Demolition Association (DA) and managing director of InduRec GmbH.

For the industry talk on the topics "Why approval processes for heavy transports endanger construction site operations" and "Substitute construction materials - The future in road construction?", the participants will meet on April 28, 2023, from 2:15 to 3:00 p.m. in the special show area of the so-called job exchange "BaustelleZukunft" in the outdoor area of the trade fair.

The panel wants to start with the current challenges in approval procedures in the (heavy-duty) transport sector. This topic relates to machinery and material flows such as construction materials and steel, and thus concerns all industries represented at the fair. This will be followed by a discussion on the installation of recycled building materials in road construction. The main issues here are quality assurance, product status and the mandatory inclusion of secondary construction materials in public tenders.
