Development of the upgraded RATL outdoor exhibition area "Peter-Gross-Bau Areal" and benefits for exhibitors

The "Peter-Gross-Bau Areal" was officially opened on 1 October 2024. After a year of construction and extensive technical and infrastructural upgrades, this will now from the outdoor exhibition area of RecyclingAKTIV & TiefbauLIVE.

The Saarland construction company Peter Gross Bau is sponsoring partner of the versatile outdoor multifunctional area at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre, which is thus being further enhanced by a branding that underlines its uniqueness as a "top-class outdoor exhibition area".

Review Opening / RATL Preview

RATL-Preview 2025

The opening celebrations were accompanied by a pre-event of RecyclingAKTIV & TiefbauLIVE 2025, the Preview RATL 2025. One year before the 5th edition of RATL at Messe Karlsruhe, interested parties were able to get an overview of the five focus topics that will characterise the RATL trade fair in October 2025 at the Peter-Gross-Bau Areal:

  • Infrastructure construction & digital construction site
  • Alternative drive concepts & charging infrastructure
  • Circular economy & ressource efficiency - The latest handling and recycling technology
  • Secondary building materials - Demolition & processing of mineral waste
  • Recruitment of young talent and skilled labour

Theme partners of the RATL Preview 2025

Infrastructure construction & digital construction site | Nagel Gruppe with Liebherr and Leica

Liebherr A922 Rail

Digital solutions in the form of machine control systems, site surveying, site documentation and fleet management, combined with high-performance carrier machines, are a key lever for maximising the productivity of construction site processes. As part of the RATL 2025 preview, Nagel Gruppe will be presenting a harmonious excerpt from its machine portfolio focussing on the application area of infrastructure construction in combination with digital solutions. This includes the Liebherr A922 Rail, which is a highly sought-after model on all track construction sites, particularly in the field of infrastructure and track construction. In combination with a large number of suitable attachments and the in-house quick-change system Likufix, a fully thought-out and ECM-certified system is created. At the event, Nagel Gruppe will also be presenting a Liebherr crawler excavator with Leica 3D control, the Liebherr L507E wheel loader and a 10-foot container with track unit and Leica simulator.

Circular economy & ressource efficiency: The latest handling and recycling technology | Zeppelin Baumaschinen GmbH

At the Preview RATL 2025, Zeppelin presented the Cat MH3040, a material handler in the 40 t class, in the version with a straight stick and sorting grab. This symbolises the variety of possible applications, the countless different uses in recycling, the progress of technology in the circular economy and, last but not least, the high safety standard combined with optimum ergonomics and comfort.

Alternative drive concepts & charging infrastructure | JCB

JCB wheel dumper 1TE

JCB relies on different drive types for its machines. As part of its ‘Road to Zero’ campaign, the company invested in the development of new drive systems at an early stage and, in addition to diesel-powered machines, offers an impressive range of electric-powered machines in the compact segment. JCB is also a pioneer in the field of hydrogen: in addition to the hydrogen-powered backhoe loader and telescopic handler, a mobile hydrogen refuelling system was recently added to the hydrogen prototype fleet at the JCB quarry. The compact segment in particular has great potential for electric drives, as energy consumption is lower here. The E-TECH product range at JCB is a new generation of machines that does not compromise on performance. An emission-free drive extends the application range of many conventional construction machines, particularly with regard to work in enclosed spaces, warehouses or noise-sensitive areas. At the ‘Preview RATL 2025’, JCB will therefore be presenting three purely electrically powered machines in addition to the 555-210 rotating telescopic handler: The compact 403E wheel loader, the 19C-1E mini excavator and the 1TE 1 tonne wheel dumper.

Recruitment of young talent and skilled labour | Special show ‘Baustelle Zukunft’, including Peter Gross Bau

The format of Baustelle Zukunft has become firmly established during the last two editions of RATL. So far, renowned construction, demolition and recycling companies have presented their employer strengths and vacancies in an informal and relaxed atmosphere to pave the way for dialogue with future young talent and skilled workers. At the third edition of Baustelle Zukunft in October 2025, the format will be adapted to RATL's live demo concept and supplemented by the commissioning of construction machinery, construction equipment and recycling technology, in line with the motto: ‘From trainees for trainees’. From now on, the aim is to bring the job profiles relating to construction, demolition and recycling to life in order to better emphasise the attractiveness of the activities, especially through the use of high-tech machinery. Typical construction processes and areas of application, which are representative of selected training occupations, are to be depicted in construction fields. The construction fields will be equipped with the latest machine technologies from RATL manufacturers and dealers. The companies' trainees will be more actively involved by demonstrating the expertise they have learnt so far as equipment operators and convincing others that their work in the construction and recycling sector is innovative.

Secondary building materials: Demolition & processing of mineral waste | Kurz Machinery GmbH

Sand and grit mill SMR

Kurz Gruppe Machinery GmbH presented the SMR sand and grit mill from Austrian manufacturer SBM at the preview event. The sand and grit mill is not only visually different from conventional recycling systems. The SMR is a highly efficient machine that has been specially developed for smaller feed sizes of 0-150 mm. The SMR is particularly impressive in the processing of gravel and natural stone thanks to its uniform crushed product and high degree of comminution. It delivers a cubic grain shape with a high value grain content, which makes it ideal for demanding applications in sand and high-grade chippings production. In addition to processing gravel, the SBM vertical crusher is also used efficiently as a secondary crusher for oversize grain in recycling.

Other partners | including MAGNI

Other partners were also on board for the ‘Preview RATL’, including MAGNI. MAGNI machines are frequently used in long-term infrastructure projects such as building construction, road construction and recycling. Here they impress with their wide range of applications as telescopic handlers, all-terrain cranes, work platforms and bucket loaders. At its booth at RATL 2025 in the outdoor exhibition area of TiefbauLIVE, the company will show interested visitors not only the enormous performance data but also the modern software and the intuitive touchscreen in the new MAGNI comfort cabs. The safety of users and personnel on construction sites is always the focus of attention. State-of-the-art software for complete control with icon-based navigation as well as freely selectable working and extension modes to maximise performance for all operating conditions and the LMI system (Last Moment Indicator) with anti-tilt mechanism for constant monitoring of machine movements are just some of the safety functions.
